What is community solar?

Community solar makes it possible for everyone to go solar! Not everyone can install solar panels on their own roof. Many don’t own their home’s roof, their roof may not  be able support solar panels or they couldn't afford it. Whatever the reason may be, now, all Jersey City residents and businesses can utilize solar energy through New Jersey's new community solar program.

How community solar works is a solar panel system  is constructed in a location where they can receive sunlight. This will likely be in an area near you and the power generated from this solar array will be supplied to the local power grid. When you subscribe to a community solar project within your region you will receive credit on your monthly electric bill for the energy produced from your share of the project.

Why should I subscribe?

Impact: Traditional electricity companies generate your power through fossil fuels - coal, oil, natural gas. The burning of fossil fuels results in harmful carbon emissions and air pollutants being released which increase greenhouse gases in our atmosphere and contributes to climate change. Solar power is a clean and renewable energy source that does not release any greenhouse gases or harmful pollutants.  By joining a community solar project you can help reduce your negative impact on the environment and support green and local energy in New Jersey.

Savings: The new community solar program in New Jersey is committed to serving low-to moderate-income (LMI) communities and 51% of subscribers must be LMI.  As a community solar subscriber you will receive credits each month on your PSE&G bill and will go toward offsetting the cost of your bill. 10%-15% savings are guaranteed, allowing you to save money and contribute to a more sustainable future.
