Supporting a more sustainable future in Jersey City
Summer 2023
This summer with support from Dimension Energy, Greener JC partnered with the founder of Jersey City Birds, Lorraine Freeney and Professor Allison Fitzgerald of NJCU to support 2 recent college graduates from NJCU and 7 Jersey City public high school students.
The students conducted their own independent research projects focusing on the habitat preference of resident and migratory shore birds at Liberty State Park’s Caven Point Natural Area and Lincoln Park West, while exploring a range of questions, such as what plants provide the most effective pollinator habitat. They gained new skills in wildlife documentation, bird identification, and scientific research. All right here in Jersey City’s backyard!
