The Greener JC Student Internship Program will provide opportunities for Jersey City students to gain valuable knowledge, experience, and mentorship in the fields of environmental science, sustainability, and biology.
Students will compare at least two areas/parks and document, identify, and record species found while contributing data to JC BioBlitz iNaturalist account to better understand the biodiversity here in Jersey City.
Students will compare the diversity and abundance of bees and butterflies in a plot of land with high abundance of pollinator habitat versus a low abundance of pollinator habitat. Greener JC will partner with a local Jersey City parks such as Canco Park Conservancy.
Students will conduct a survey of the bird diversity in Liberty State Park’s Caven Point. Caven Point is particularly important for migratory birds, and given the ecological sensitivity of this ecosystem, access on the interior boardwalk and natural beach are closed between April and October in order to protect nesting habitat for seasonal birds. Greener JC has received approval from the NJDEP to access Caven Point for this project.
Students will support the development and updating of Greener JC educational and outreach materials. Student interns may create social media campaigns, videos, blogs, interviews, and website content.
